“Robber Barons” is a pejorative term referring to any one of a number of “Captains of Industry” of the late 19th century, such J.P. Morgan, Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller, who became wealthy through what some considered exploitation of labor and unethical means.
Today, the term should refer to government which is becoming wealthy with your money and power. As the federal government continues to spend recklessly, adding daily to our historic national debt, it exploits our children’s future labor and crushes their future opportunities. According to a new Heritage Foundation report, there is no end in sight:
The 2010 edition of “Federal Spending by the Numbers” shows spending and deficits continuing to grow at a pace not seen since World War II. Washington will spend $30,543 per household in 2010—$5,000 per household more than just two years ago. While some of this spending is a temporary result of the recession, President Obama’s latest budget would replace this temporary spending with permanent new programs. Consequently, by 2020—a time of assumed peace and prosperity—Washington would still spend nearly $36,000 per household, compared to $25,000 per household before this recession (adjusted for inflation).
Unless the spending stops, your children and grandchildren will enslaved to the 21st century Robber Barons, a.k.a government.
And since the Corporate robber Barons are still going strong – if not even more prevalent than ever – at our expense, now we are getting it from all sides. Redistribution of wealth has favored the rich all along and now we have added the black hole in Washington to suck us dry.
