Signs of narcissism

President Obama and stimulus package supporters are using your money to buy great big signs that promote the money they have spent on “stimulus” projects.  According to ABC News:

As the midterm election season approaches, new road signs are popping up everywhere – millions of dollars worth of signs touting “The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act” and reminding passers-by that the program is “Putting America Back to Work.”

In Colorado, the signs go one step further mentioning Governor Bill Ritter by name. According to Internet news cite Face The State, the cost for each sign in Colorado ranges from $594 to $1,237 depending on the size.  FTS adds:

Instead of crediting the ARRA and Ritter for “putting America to work” it would be more appropriate for these signs to read: ‘Thank you taxpayers.’

Some in Congress recognize this for what it is, taxpayer-funded self promotion. Representative Aaron Schock (R-Illinois), a critic of the signs, provided ABC News with administration guidelines on ARRA signage:

The Recovery Act logo which was provided not only looks oddly similar to the Obama logo from the 2008 campaign but its stated purpose, according to the document, is to act as “a symbol of President Obama’s commitment to the American people to invest their tax dollars wisely and put Americans back to work.”

ABC News’ observation that the logo looks “oddly similar to the Obama logo” is spot on and yet another sign of the president’s narcissism.

Memo to the president and Congress: Parents don’t need a sign reminding us of how you are spending our kids into debt. The arrogance of your power does that everyday.
