Grant-Sponsored Goodie Bags
Grant-Sponsored Goodie Bags:
By Regan Benson
MAD synopsis: Jefferson County School District used $11,401.83 in grant money (taxpayer dollars) for food and other goodies.
In this submission I would simply like to share with you grant money spending in one elementary school in Jefferson County for time period 7/09 thru 8/10. This particular school, Lumberg Elementary, is identified as needing intervention for not meeting academic targets. I suppose it would take a greater understanding in interpreting grants to make a correlation that food and goodies make staff perform better. In my supporting documentation you will see a few food and goodie items totaling $11,401.83.
These small amounts of money add up quickly, I have to wonder how these digestible dollar amounts might actually improve education. On one last note, this submission is only on grant expenditures, this does not include food and other goodies spent at this one school out of the general fund.
A few examples:
Staff retreat bags: 379.53 Wonder what was in these?
CC binders jolly ranchers mice staff retreat: 390.87 Jolly Ranchers, seriously?
CC colored paper and gum staff training: 52.97 GUM?
staff retreat food and bbq: 642.94 YUM?
