Transforming Transformer Boxes
Transforming Transformer Boxes:

MAD synopsis: The city of Loveland, CO, pays artists tens of thousands of dollars to beautify its transformer boxes.
“Transformation Project”
The city of Loveland is paying artists to paint our transformer boxes. So far they have done 46 boxes. They are paid between $1200.00 and $3000.00 depending on the size of the box.
Let’s do a little math here. Forty-six boxes at $1200 would be $55,200 and at $3000 that would be $138,000. Don’t get me wrong. In different economic times, I might not have an issue with this. I was told by the city clerk’s office that the city has laid off 20 people in the past two years. My question is should we be painting transformer boxes when we are laying people off?

October 11th, 2010 at 3:58 amThis was a total waste of taxpayer money. They are green to begin with to blend in with surroundings. Now they are such a distraction and I am surprised there are not more accidents. Most of hideous and alot look like graffiti to me and I have the urge to repaint them the dull green color again. They do not blend in with landscapes now. Yes, why did they lay off 20 people and then spend this $ wastefully? Maybe those City of Loveland emloyees were not artists…. our city council needs to be revamped too it seems.
